Quran surah Al Qalam 43 in english translation

Sahih International

(68:43) Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(68:43) Their eyes will be cast down, ignominy will cover them; they used to be called to prostrate (offer prayers), while they were healthy and good (in the life of the world, but they did not).

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(68:43) With eyes downcast, abasement stupefying them. And they had been summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet unhurt.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(68:43) Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused).

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(68:43) Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them; and they were called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.

Dr. Ghali

(68:43) Submissive will be their be holdings, (i.e; gazes) humbleness oppressing them. And they had been already called to prostrate themselves while (Literally: and) they were safe.

Ali Unal

(68:43) Downcast will be their eyes, with abasement overwhelming them. Assuredly they were called to prostrate while they were yet safe and whole (in this world, but they did not).

Amatul Rahman Omar

(68:43) Their looks will be downcast and they will be overwhelmed with disgrace. (Before this state of theirs) they had been called upon to prostrate themselves (before God) while they were (still) safe and sound (but they had refused).

Literal

(68:43) Their eyesights/understanding (are) humble/submissive , humiliation/disgrace burdens/depresses them , and they had become being called repeatedly to the prostration and they are safe/secure.

Ahmed Ali

(68:43) Lowered will be their eyes, disgrace overwhelming them. They had indeed been called to bow in homage when they were free of blame.

A. J. Arberry

(68:43) humbled shall be their eyes, and abasement shall overspread them, for they had been summoned to bow themselves while they were whole.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

(68:43) Downcast will be their looks; abjectness will overspread them. Surely they had been called upon to Prostrate themselves while yet they were whole.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

(68:43)-

Muhammad Sarwar

(68:43) Their eyes will be lowered and disgrace will cover them. They had certainly been told to prostrate themselves before God when they were safe and sound.

Hamid Abdul Aziz

(68:43) Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them seeing that they had been called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.

Faridul Haque

Wahiduddin Khan

(68:43) Their eyes will be cast down and they will be covered in shame; they were bidden to prostrate themselves, when they were safe and sound [but they did not obey].

(68:43) Their eyes will be cast down and ignominy will cover them; they used to be called to prostrate themselves, while they were.
