وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ

Quran surah Al Fajr 16 in english translation

Sahih International

(89:16) But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(89:16) But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me!”

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(89:16) But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(89:16) But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), “My Lord hath humiliated me!”

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(89:16) But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me.

Dr. Ghali

(89:16) And just when He tries him, so He determines for him the right estimate of his provision, then he says, “My Lord has degraded me.”

(89:16) But whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, then he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”

(89:16) And when He disciplines him (with affliction) and (thus) straitens for him his (means of) subsistence, he says, `My Lord has (for no reason) disgraced me.´

Literal

(89:16) And but when as long as He tested him, so He tightened/strained on him His/his provision, so he says: “My Lord humiliated/disgraced/degraded me.”

(89:16) But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: “My Lord despises me.”
