ذَٰلِكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَمْرَحُونَ

Quran surah Ghafir 75 in english translation

Sahih International

(40:75) [The angels will say], “That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(40:75) That was because you had been exulting in the earth without any right (by worshipping others instead of Allah and by committing crimes), and that you used to rejoice extremely (in your error).

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(40:75) (And it is said unto them): This is because ye exulted in the earth without right, and because ye were petulant.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(40:75) That was because ye were wont to rejoice on the earth in things other than the Truth, and that ye were wont to be insolent.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(40:75) That is because you exulted in the land unjustly and because you behaved insolently.

Dr. Ghali

(40:75) That is (due to the fact) that you used to exult in the earth untruthfully, (Literally: without the truth) and (due to the fact) that you used to live in merriment.

(40:75) “That (His leading you astray and your punishment) is because you arrogantly exulted on the earth without (sense of the bounds of) right, and because you were arbitrary in your exulting.

Literal

(40:75) That (is) because (of) what you were being happy/rejoiceful/delighted in the earth/Planet Earth without the right/truth , and because (of) what you were being lively and joyful .
