Quran surah Al Maidah 71 in english translation

Sahih International

(5:71) And they thought there would be no [resulting] punishment, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah turned to them in forgiveness; then [again] many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(5:71) They thought there will be no Fitnah (trial or punishment), so they became blind and deaf; after that Allah turned to them (with Forgiveness); yet again many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is the All-Seer of what they do.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(5:71) They thought no harm would come of it, so they were wilfully blind and deaf. And afterward Allah turned (in mercy) toward them. Now (even after that) are many of them wilfully blind and deaf. Allah is Seer of what they do.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(5:71) They thought there would be no trial (or punishment); so they became blind and deaf; yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them; yet again many of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well all that they do.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(5:71) And they thought that there would be no affliction, so they became blind and deaf; then Allah turned to them mercifully, but many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is well seeing what they do.

Dr. Ghali

(5:71) And they reckoned that there would be no temptation, so they were willfully blind, and they were willfully deaf, (yet) thereafter Allah relented on them; (then) thereafter they were willfully blind and they were willfully deaf, many of them; and Allah is Ever-Beholding whatever they do.

Ali Unal

(5:71) They calculated that there would be no trial (of them as a result of what they did), and so became as if blind and deaf (to truth and all Divine admonitions). Then God (having guided them to waken their consciences, and turn to Him in repentance so that they could reform themselves) relented towards them (in gracious forgiveness). Then (again, in spite of that) many of them became as if blind and deaf. And God sees well all that they do.

Amatul Rahman Omar

(5:71) And they thought there would be no punishment (for them) so they willfully became blind and deaf

Literal

(5:71) And they thought, that test/torture (is) not (to) be, so they became blinded/confused , and they became deaf, then God forgave on them, then they blinded/confused and they deafened many (of) them, and God (is) seeing/knowing/understanding with what they make/do/work.

Ahmed Ali

(5:71) And imagined that no trials would befall them; and they turned deaf and blind (to the truth). But God still turned to them; yet many of them turned blind and deaf again; but God sees everything they do.

A. J. Arberry

(5:71) And they supposed there should be no trial; but blind they were, and deaf. Then God turned towards them; then again blind they were, many of them, and deaf; and God sees the things they do.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

(5:71) And they imagined that there would be no trial; so they blinded and deafened themselves. Thereafter Allah relented toward them, then they again blinded and deafened themselves. And Allah is Beholder of that which they Work.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

(5:71)-

Muhammad Sarwar

(5:71) They were blind and deaf in their pride, thinking themselves (to be the chosen nation of God) and thus safe from calamities. God forgave them but many of them out, of pride, again became blind and deaf. God is Well Aware of what they do.

Hamid Abdul Aziz

(5:71) They surely disbelieve who say, “Verily, Allah is the Messiah the son of Mary;” but the Messiah himself said, “O children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.” (JohnVerily, he who associates anything with Allah, Allah hath forbidden him Paradise, and his resort is the Fire, and the unjust shall have none to help them.
