فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْقَمَرَ بَازِغًا قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّي ۖ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَهْدِنِي رَبِّي لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الضَّالِّينَ

Sahih International

(6:77) And when he saw the moon rising, he said, “This is my lord.” But when it set, he said, “Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray.”

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(6:77) When he saw the moon rising up, he said: “This is my lord.” But when it set, he said: “Unless my Lord guides me, I shall surely be among the erring people.”

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(6:77) And when he saw the moon uprising, he exclaimed: This is my Lord. But when it set, he said: Unless my Lord guide me, I surely shall become one of the folk who are astray.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(6:77) When he saw the moon rising in splendour, he said: “This is my Lord.” But when the moon set, He said: “unless my Lord guide me, I shall surely be among those who go astray.”

(6:77) Then when he saw the moon rise with spreading light he said (to the people), `Is this my Lord (as you assert)?´ But when it set he said, `Had my Lord not guided me aright I would have, invariably, been of the people who have gone astray.´

Literal

(6:77) So when he saw the moon, rising/emerging, he said: “That (is) my lord, so when it set/darkened, he said: “If (E) my lord does not guide me, I will be (E) from the nation the misguided.”
