فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوَاهُمْ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا إِلَّا أَنْ قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
Quran surah Al A’raf 5 in english translation
(7:5) And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, “Indeed, we were wrongdoers!”
Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,
(7:5) No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: “Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)”.
Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
(7:5) No plea had they, when Our terror came unto them, save that they said: Lo! We were wrong-doers.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
(7:5) When (thus) Our punishment took them, no cry did they utter but this: “Indeed we did wrong.”
Mohammad Habib Shakir
(7:5) Yet their cry, when Our punishment came to them, was nothing but that they said: Surely we were unjust.
(7:5) So, in no way did they have a plea as Our violence came to them, except that they said, “Surely we were unjust.”
(7:5) And there was no appeal from them when Our scourge fell upon them, except for their saying: “Indeed, we have been wrongdoers.”
Amatul Rahman Omar
(7:5) So that their cry meant nothing when Our punishment came upon them except that they (apologisingly) said, `Truly we were wrong-doing people.´
(7:5) So their call/prayer when/if Our might/power came to them was not except that they said: “We were unjust/oppressive .”
(7:5) And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: “We have indeed been sinners.”
A. J. Arberry
(7:5) and they but cried, when Our might came upon there, ‘We were evildoers.’;
Abdul Majid Daryabadi
(7:5) Then naught was their cry a when Our violence came upon them save that they said: verily we have been the wrong-doers.
Maulana Mohammad Ali
(7:5) When Our wrath struck them, they could do nothing but confess to their sins.
Hamid Abdul Aziz
(7:5) 7:5.And their cry, when Our wrath came upon them, was only to say, “Verily, we were unjust (wrongdoers)!”
(7:5) Therefore they uttered nothing when Our punishment came to them, except that they said, “Indeed we were the unjust.”
(7:5) When Our might came upon them, their only cry was, We were indeed wrongdoers.
Ahmed Raza Khan
(7:5) Therefore they uttered nothing when Our punishment came to them, except that they said, Indeed we were the unjust.
(7:5) and when Our scourge fell upon them, their only cry was, “We were indeed wrongdoers!”
(7:5) No cry did they utter when Our torment came upon them but this: “Verily, we were wrongdoers.”
Ali Quli Qarai
(7:5) Then their cry, when Our punishment overtook them, was only that they said, We have indeed been wrongdoers!
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish
