Quran surah Al Qalam 17 in english translation

Sahih International

(68:17) Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(68:17) Verily, We have tried them as We tried the people of the garden, when they swore to pluck the fruits of the (garden) in the morning,

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(68:17) Lo! We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed that they would pluck its fruit next morning,

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(68:17) Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(68:17) Surely We will try them as We tried the owners of the garden, when they swore that they would certainly cut off the produce in the morning,

Dr. Ghali

(68:17) Surely We have tried them as We tried the companions (i.e; owners) of the garden, as they swore that indeed they would definitely wrest away (i.e; gather all) (its fruits) in the (early) morning,

Ali Unal

(68:17) For sure We try them (with drought as they rely on their wealth and children We have granted them and reject Our call), just as We tried the owners of the garden. They swore that they would assuredly harvest its produce the next day.

Amatul Rahman Omar

(68:17) (Thus) have We made these (opponents) undergo a trial just as We had made the owners of a garden undergo it when they swore (one to another) that they would pluck (all) its fruit with the next morning.

Literal

(68:17) We (E) tested them as/like We tested the treed garden`s owners/friends/company when they swore/made oath (that) they will cut it off (E) (will harvest it) by the morning/day break.

Ahmed Ali

(68:17) We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning

A. J. Arberry

(68:17) Now We have tried them, even as We tried the owners of the garden when they swore they would pluck in the morning

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

(68:17) Verily We! We have proved them even as We proved the fellows of a garden when they swarethat they would surely reap it in the morning.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

(68:17) But a visitation from thy Lord came on it, while they slept.

Muhammad Sarwar

(68:17) We have tested them in the same way as we tested the dwellers of the garden (in Yemen) when they swore to pluck all the fruits of the garden in the morning,

Hamid Abdul Aziz

(68:17) Surely We will try them as We tried the people of the garden, when they resolved to cut the produce in the morning,

Faridul Haque

(68:17) We have indeed tested them the way We had tested the owners of the garden when they swore that they would reap its harvest the next morning.

Talal Itani

(68:17) We tested them, as We tested the owners of the garden, when they vowed to harvest it in the morning.

Ahmed Raza Khan

(68:17) We have indeed tested them the way We had tested the owners of the garden when they swore that they would reap its harvest the next morning.

Wahiduddin Khan

(68:17) We have tried them as we tried the owners of a certain orchard, who vowed to harvest all its fruits the next morning,

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

(68:17) Verily, We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they swore to pluck the fruits in the morning,

Ali Quli Qarai

(68:17) Indeed we have tested them just as We tested the People of the Garden when they vowed they would gather its fruit at dawn,

Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish

(68:17) We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden who had sworn that in the morning they would reap it,
